Dr. Luke Gardner, an Aquaculture Extension Specialist with California Sea Grant, leverages his molecular biology and general aquaculture knowledge to contribute significant academic and practical insights at Moss Landing Marine Labs. Dr. Gardner's research provides valuable perspectives on commercial and conservation aquaculture, tackling myriad topics from policy shaping to optimal husbandry practices. Through his dual role at Moss Landing Marine Labs and California Sea Grant, he has proven equally adept at guiding and supervising student research projects and utilizing a pedagogical approach in teaching graduate-level aquaculture courses. His community focus sees him striving towards effectively aligning aquaculture practices with the economic, social, and environmental needs of communities. Dr. Garner's efforts include broad engagement processes, developing informative workshops, and hosting forums to address emerging industry challenges. His commitment to promoting sustainable aquaculture is further evidenced by serving on the California Aquaculture Development Committee as well as having delegate roles with the US-Korea Joint Coordination Panel for Aquaculture Cooperation and the US-Japan Natural Resource Panel on Aquaculture.
