The overall goal of this project is to advance marine aquaculture along the west coast of the U.S. by demonstrating production techniques for a new, competitive and safe product: Crassadoma gigantea (purple-hinge rock scallop). This project aims to evaulate seed production and growout methods as well as create triploid seed that can be grown anywhere without the possibility of impact on local populations. The purple-hinge rock scallop has a high market value and a large natural distribution, but most areas forbid commercial harvest of this species, making it a potentially valuable aquaculture species.
